Multiple Teams · Volleyball Team Defeats Calvin to Tie For First In Conference

The Varsity team entered the gym ready to play their biggest rival on Thursday night. The girls knew that they needed to step up their game to beat a fast-paced team. After the JV football game was cancelled, the girls saw a big crowd in the stands ready to cheer them on. The first game didn’t go how the girls planned, losing 18-25. After a hard loss, the girls still couldn’t boost their spirits to win the next game. With a loss of 15-25, the crowd began to give up on the girls and sat down.  The team was determined though, they wanted desperately to beat their rival and to potentially  take first in conference. In the third game, the girls gave everything they had to come back and win 25-23. With a gym full of excitement, the girls knew they needed to win two more games to make it an official match win. The fourth game got the crowd up again and the girls couldn’t have done it without them. With hard hits from the front line and amazing digs from the back row, the girls finished the fourth game 25-22.  The fifth game was the most important. Whoever won would claim the win. The girls started off a little rough, but pushed forward and took a big lead. With the final game only to 15, the girls knew they had to step it up. They won 15-10 and jumped with excitement. The crowd stormed the court for the first time ever because the girls were now tied for first in their conference and had beaten their rivals that they had lost to earlier in the season. The varsity team is now 8-1 and will play Calvin again for the conference title.
